I fail to see how members discussing topics in a section that invites discussion of other things detracts from the forum.

To the extent of NINETY SEVEN PERCENT Axe!  :o

On the contrary, it invites people to post on a variety of different subjects that they may feel more comfortable and helps to get people involved.

B*llocks!  It's only 4 of you engaging in the drivel!  Much of which is pretty sleazy (and bl**dy irritating!), too, to say the least!

Oh, c'mon CA, lighten up will you.

Where's the sleaze in any of these topics?

TomTom.......No sleaze, just a member asking other members for advise!
Result..........No sleaze, just Domi sharing her good news with members that she feels would be interested.
Chippy Chips.........My comment on asking the chippy lady if "she had brown baps"  could be construed as sleazy, by some.  To me, it's just good old, "carry on film" type sense of humour!  Nothing to get upset about!

Really, if we want members to start contributing to the forum, we ALL need to kick this petty squabbling in to touch.  If it was your kids carrying on like this, you would probably ground them, or dish out some other punishment.

Just to point out, the forum started to go stale, just about the time, that the arguments started over your moderating activity CA.  At the time, you received plenty of support from other members, myself included, and most of us, asked you not to step down as moderator.  However, in-spite of the support you received, you, in the end, decided to step down, which is your right.

Unfortunately CA, since then, most of your post's have been of a sarcastic nature, mainly aimed at George and SS.  I can understand why you do this, even though I wish you wouldn't.  You have way way to much to offer this forum, with your knowledge and grasp of BIR fayre, so why resort to slaughtering members because they choose to discuss topics that you have no interest in?  Take a leaf out of JerryM's book, don't read them!

CA,

I'm with u on this one. the weather does have an effect as we already know from the past. the other posts are not a problem as i don't bother to read them.

Forums do go stale from time to time, that's just the nature of the beast I'm afraid, so it's our responsibility as members to make it more interesting, and inviting to new members.  That's why I personally think Chris's Curry panel is a great idea.  Ok, it was unfortunately titled, something that Chris admitted himself, but the response that he received, was nothing short of disgraceful.  Chris obviously recognised the need to give the forum a boost, and yet certain members would be quite happy for the idea never to take flight!

Another point I'd like to make, what has happened to the old stalwarts such as Darthphall, CurryKing, Haldi and so on?  Why don't they post anymore?  And before anyone suggests that it's because the forum is shite, they haven't posted in ages!  Even Admin (Stew) barely post's anything. It would suggest to me that this "drivel and sleaze" as you put it CA, is not a recent phenomena on cr0, or maybe you could offer a better explanation?

CA, I make no secret of the fact, that I am a fan of yours and your recipes, I think you have done more than anyone on this site to try to achieve what we are all looking for in one way or another, but at the moment you are contributing, like the rest of us, very little, which is a crying shame.  Your recipes, more than anyones have inspired me most.  Even now, I have about a litre of your base in my freezer, along side my own.  I have a big tub of your curry masala in my cupboard, along side my own.  When ever I click to view who's on-line, the vast majority of guest's and members are viewing your recipes!  You have too much to offer than this negativity your showing at the moment.  Please, lead by example, and others will follow, especially new members.

Can we all please stop all this nonsense now?  Let's get the forum back to what it used to be, let's encourage new members whenever we can.  Let's entice these guest's to become members.  I know that cooking is a passion, and I know that people have strong feelings regarding certain dishes, but at the end of the day, it should be fun, and not an excuse to kick off over the slightest thing.

I suggest there's a big difference between (a) threads which aren't curry-related but do interest some people and (b) mindless drivel more akin to a chat room. I'm pleased to see that the latter category (b) is seldom a big issue here.

I'm grateful to people who made a sensible contribiution to the thread I started on Roast Beef. I'm also very interested in topics like pizza, chips and Chinese food. Whilst I didn't mind CA's light-hearted comment about turning the joint of roast beef into beef curry, that was the closest we got to off-topic, irrelevant drivel, so it's interesting to note he's the  one complaining now.

Heaven forbid we should talk about curry on a CURRY FORUM George!!!  Words fail me, they really do!  ::)

Take the message, guys, "most recent posts" are mostly about anything other than BIR curries now (97%!?  :o).

And THAT, to my mind, is WAY out of kilter and downright boring and very annoying for any of us focused on replicating BIR curries (for a supposed "curry forum")  :-\

The thing is, at the mo I'm using Razor's base, Axe's IG bhajis, CA's naans, UB's pathia, Stew's Bradford Based Gravy, Dip's madras/BE Madras but since I've already posted on them I'm not going to constantly go back and post how I found the recipes each and every time, nor am I on a hot day (or what is a hot day for the UK lol) going to stand over a hot pan of base, a hot deep fat fryer nor have the oven on at top whack - I'm a sadist not a masochist! lol

Not forgetting we are currently waiting on Chris' new section to open to give a bit of fresh impetus to the board (and get people using different recipes to their own personal faves/staples) and I really hope it takes off without the negativity we've had on here of late. A bit of banter lightens up what can be a very staid board (I've had PM's and emails from members saying how refreshing it is to have some light-heartedness and joking on the board because it's way too serious at times and that in itself puts members off of posting.

The whole point of the off-topic section is to discuss anything at all and lambasting members for posting in there doesn't entice them into joining in to any other discussion, curry-related or otherwise. I don't see anything wrong with people requesting different recipes, surely members helping other members out is only a positive thing?

It's time to get away from the petty arguments that do nothing for the members involved or the forum as a whole. It's not possible to have curry in the morning, curry in the evening and curry at supper time for alot of members (not that the majority would like it that way either as it would get old very quickly!) whilst it may appeal to some, alot of us have families that sadly demand food from other genres lol and I'm sure that given the choice, the Admin would rather have members names at the bottom of his board and posts on his forums than no members online and posts going out to other forums.

For me personally I feel I have reached a level that I am happy to cruise with ( all thanks' to this Forum and Forum Members ) I can now produce a Madras,Korma,Veggy Curry, and Onion Bhaji's that are as good as most of our local T/A and as such do not spend as much time on the Forum as I used to, hungry ( no pun intended ) for knowledge to make that perfect BIR tasting Curry. I do have other interests but still pop in on the Forum most evenings just to see if a massive ' break through' has been made by someone and any topics that are non BIR and that I don't find interesting I just don't bother to read .
CA , You have contributed with excellent information, recipes and practical advice but sometimes feel your pi$$ taking and argumentative way is sometimes OTT  :(
You current comments on this thread remind me of my kids when they were younger when not getting there own way  :D so lighten up CA or don't read any posts that don't interest you or if you feel it's time to move on please leave your recipes on the way out  ;D ATB.
