Asda Ready Meals

Hi all ,
My Mrs brought home an Asda ' Ready Meal ' I think it's called for two people , it consists of a good size portion of Chicken Tikka in Sauce , a good portion of Chicken Madras , Pilau Rice for two , two Naan Breads , and a couple of Onion Bhaji's . I think the Curries and the Rice were frozen but this was a very nice meal  And all for  ? 6 odd . I think they do allsorts of Indian meals and I would definitely have another one of them if I needed a Curry in a hurry .

I can only presume that, being so close on the heels of George's similar post about supermarket curries (the last one, not the one 5 years previously lol), you're "'avin' a laff" emin-j? 

Otherwise, what's you point?  Is your point that:

a)  it's really good value? (so is a curry pot noodle...maybe)

b)  it's really BIR quality?  (if so, your "BIR curry quest" is well and truly over)

Perhaps you can serve it with doughnuts...you know, those "chilli flavoured" thingamy jimmys.... :

One man's meat is another man's poison I guess as I find the the ASDA curry dishes nothing short of awful. Particularly the Tikka Masala which is so far away from the mark I don't know how they get away with calling it a Tikka Masala. It's hot, runny and has a metalic taste, not what I would expect of a dish by this name.

I know they keep trying new recipes and hopefully one day they will crack it but until then, i'll stick to cooking my own.

I gave up eating all ready meals, no matter what or where from years ago after listening to some chief exec of one of the major food companies, who supply pretty much all the supermarkets, on the R4 Food Programme moaning about the global rise in the cost of 'protein'. FFS these guys don't even buy meat or chicken or whatever they buy 'protein' on the global market, god only knows what's in those bloody ready meals.

You're twisting his choice of a generic, technical term to an absurd extent. The LIDL curries I recommended recently most certainly do include chicken. Are you trying to suggest it's some synthetic material? I'm fairly sure these dishes are more healthy than most curries from a BIR and, if members' attempts at BIR curries are a '99%' match, then these supermarket curries will be healthier than BIR 'copies' made at home, too.  There are virtually no additives and no colour.

A couple of observations:

First: I can only assume that ASDA source their chilled / fresh curries locally. Mine I know are made in Bradford (I live in Leeds) and the place they are made could not supply the whole country, simply isn't big enough. The ones available in my local ASDA are a terrific standby if frozen on the day of purchase. Not as good as my home style, better than the majority of BIRs (which are mostly Pakistani, not Bangladeshi as the majority of what the rest of you eat are - the Bangladeshi BIRs in Leeds are particulary average, the Pakistani / Punjabi style goes down better here).

Secondly: the gay spat between Cory Ander and Domi is becoming hilarious. Like an episode of Will and Grace. Just with no grace.

Yes CoryAnder good value @ ?6.47p , not quite BIR , but tasty nonetheless and convenient.
