This recipe comes from the "Authentic Balti Curry" cookbook ISBN 141205592 - X

Per Portion:

1 tbsp vegetable oil
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1 medium onion
1 1/2 tsp of Kushi spice http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=4296.0
1/2 tsp chilli powder
2 tsp sugar
Juice of half a lemon
50ml of pre-cooked dhal http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=4346.0
1 slice of pineapple (cut into chunks if you prefer)
125ml of Kushi base sauce http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=4283.0
A portion of pre-cooked chicken http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=4293.0
Fresh coriander leaves to garnish.

Method:

Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and fry the garlic until light brown.

Next, add the onion, and fry until light brown.  Take off the heat

Add the Kushi spice, chilli powder, sugar and lemon juice, and give it a really good mix.

Return to a very low heat, for 1/2 minute. stirring constantly - making sure the spices don't burn.

Add the cooked dhal, followed by the pineapple and mix.

Add the pre-cooked chicken, follwed by the base sauce, then stir well.  Simmer for two or three minutes, and it'll begin sizzling.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve immediately.

Hi UF,

I agree, I think this book is great, certainly the best that I've got anyway.

The recipes are very good, it's a pity that there is no Jal Frezi in there, but you can get it off their web site.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's has actually visted the Kushi Restaurant in Brum, just to see if it's any good.

Ray

Will be doing the Jalfrezi next week so will post pics.
I agree Razor this book is my favourite as well, will be making alot from this book in the future.
Out of interest have you tried the dishes with the pre-cooked chicken recipe ?
If not you have to its just superb, very aromatic, really adds to the dishes cooked from the book.
I have froze a few batches of the base sauce and a couple of serving of the pre-cooked chicken, will be using them tonight, so will find out if the taste has improved or got worse.

Hi UF,

Yes, when I first got the book, I tried alsorts using the pre-cooked chicken and lamb.  Even on it's own, the precooked meat tasted proper good.

The CTM is a bit if a faff though, but agian, very nice, and the korma needs it's own base (included in the book)

All in all, an excellent book IMO

Ray :)

Went on a camping trip over the weekend, taking a batch for two people of the pre-cooked chicken (frozen) and made the dhansak the sauce (which was frozen) was made on the Thursday as we went away on the Friday night.
The taste was excellent the chicken was very tasty indeed, so from what i tasted the precooked chicken and base can both be froze and doesnt lose any taste.
Also made a batch of this ckicken tikka recipe http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=874.0 (This recipe was frozen)
and used this madras recipe http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=674.0
Had a couple from Solihul come over and couldnt believe the smell that was wofting over the camp site. Also one of my friends joined us on the Saturday and he absolutely loved the Chicken Tikka Madras. Then mopped up the left over sauce with Aloo Parathas.
All in all a superb weekend break with help from this site.
Thanks.

Hi UF,

Well done mate.  Were about to embark on our first camping trip as a family soon, and I also am planning to take a curry or two on the trip.

I can imagine everyone sat in their tents, green with envy at the aroma coming from your tent.

Ever thought of opening up a Tent Takeaway next time you go lol ;D

What a good idea! Going beyond reheated frozen food, it should be perfectly possible to take along base sauce and small pots of all the other ingredients to make up any curry over a camping gas stove.

Hello George, the  curry base, chicken tikka and tarka dhal were all frozen but by the time we got down to the campsite ,set tent up etc....Everything was defrosted so it was still marinading all the time it was defrosting.
One thing i would say is make sure what ever you are putting the curry  in or chicken tikka etc.. that the bags, boxes are securely taped down or placed into another bag(if using bags) because it does make a mess if it leaks a little.
