Anyway its nice to see that theres others out there (here) who have such a love and quest to try and recreate BIR curry at home. Ive been eating it for something like 10 years and cooking it for nearly as long. Im a good cook but still cand get that restraunt taste, hopefully its just rond the corner ;D
Cheers,
Pete.

Hi pete, welcome aboard
How have you tried to replicate it so far? Base sauce and pre cooked ingredients?

Hi Mark.
Ive tried all sorts of different methods, early on before I found out about base sauces I used to buy kits from my local resraunt "the Rupali"
http://www.curryhell.com/
these came in little bags and were actualy not that bad, although they tasted nothing like BIR curry. For the last 5 years or so Ive just been making base sauces and working from there. My favourite one is probably from the "balti kitchen" video.
Ive been browsing the forums here for a few days and its great to see so many people with such a hardcore enthusiasm for getting this taste at home, I thought I was the only one and Im realy looking forward to talking about it with like minded folk. ;D

I've checked out their web site
They do the standard everything
I have heard of the "Curry Hell" challenge, have you done it?
If they sell you spice kits, maybe they would give a demo as well
Have you asked?
There is a new book coming out.
http://www.kushibalti.co.uk/bookpromote.htm
Check it out, it should be helpful
And how about this on our site?
http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?board=3.0
If you read the curry chat section, there are also numerous demos

Hi Pete, sorry for the late reply, this site doesnt seem to have a "notify me of replies".
No I havn't ever done "curry hell" although I know a few people who have. I dont think I could to be honest, and even if I tried I dont think Id enjoy it
. There was a documentry on BBC2 a few years back (think it was called "curry") that featured the restaraunt and showed a "curry hell" contest, you may have saw it. Wish I had of taped it, it was quite good.
Im not sure if they still do the spice kits, I dont think they were that popular. I still might ask him for a demo the next time Im in though as he's allways quite chatty and was allways very helpfull when I used to buy the kits.
Ive looked through quite a few of the recipes on here allready, I made a batch of base sauce with one of the recipes on here, it turned out quite good.
Have you seen any of the "balti kitchen" videos? Well worth a watch if you havn't seen any. He makes a canny base sauce and good pilau rice.

Pete.
