i've not found the base too critical for CTM believing the dish recipe to have a far bigger effect on the final result.

i've not come across a base on the site with a "small" 1.5 L finished vol so u might have to pick a fav and 1/2 it. may take a few goes to get it just right though.

on the CTM i make CK's http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php/topic,539.0.html
using CA's tikka http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1555.msg13736#msg13736

OK, Thanks
I have tried both the recipes listed below with great results. I might give the Ashoka base a go. In that one it states the measurements for spices etc in grams the only problem is I don't have ant electical scales. Do you know many grams to a level tsp of tumeric curry powder etc?

Hi Paul,

You want a base that is that is comprised mostly of onions, is very mildly spiced (a little tumeric and paprika....and maybe a little coriander and cumin)and has minimal other ingredients (such as tomatoes, capsicums, etc, etc).

I would suggest the Ashoka base (which also has creamed coconut in it which, I believe, lends itself to the milder and creamier and more coconutty curries).

Otherwise, you could do worse than simply make your own base from onions (and garlic and minimal spices) and add the other CTM ingredients (coconut, cream, tandoori masala/paste, etc) in the main dish.
