First Indian meal was the Lahore (think thats how they spelt it :-) )Indian restaurant under the Highlandman's Umbrella Glasgow in 1977ish (mmm brings back memories of my teens). Plates were chipped restaurant not to clean but that was when I fell in love with Indian/Pakistan food. Never looked back and neither has my expanding waist line hehe...Thats until I emigrated to Oz

My first was a restaurant at the top of Portland Road, South Norwood, London.
I took my mum there, with one of my first wage packets
My previous experience to curry had been Vesta "add water and boil" meals and also the English Curry (which usually had apple and sultana in)
I was so impressed with the curry
Particularly the bombay duck (which is fried dried fish)
There is nothing like a BIR is there?
First the aroma, then the wait, then the meal!!!

Mine was somewhere in Cardiff in the early 80's. I live in west Wales and went there as a school kid for some reason or other. There were two of us....myself and this female pupil from our school. There were no Indian restaurants where I lived at the time so I was clueless as what to order. I ordered a Vindaloo. A couple of mouthfulls and that was it....too hot. I can remembe now the disapointment of spending so much on something I couldn't eat. I started off eating Chinese curries which I think looking back were more prevalent in those days. I can remember finding them quite hot!! I just love spicy food....Indian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican..............

1960, Chittagong Restaurant, opposite West Brompton underground station (London). I notice the Old Timers here go on about "curry not being what it was" and the younger crowd can be heard to mutter "maybe he forgot to put his teeth in .." But I do think they tasted different back then and I should love to try Chittagong's lamb Madras again! Sadly they have long gone but the big cemetery is still there ...
