The colour and consistency of the base (if you're saying it's from my recipe?) looks about right to me.

Your jalfrezi also looks very nice, especially plated up (the steam is obscuring the photo of it in the pot I think) 

Did you omit food colouring from the chicken tikka?  Or maybe the recipe doesn't specify it (Blade's recipe is it?)....I can't recall.  Doesn't matter if you did omit it; it's purely cosmetic anyway.

Thanks for your comments.  I must admit, I did go to bed last night feeling a bit like I had failed 

I used red colouring in the Tikka. IMO it looked better when it was done on the BBQ but it did come out a bit dry so did it in the oven this time and for 20 mins but it didn't come out as nice as the BBQ.

Am looking forward to trying some more of your recipes.

The curry looks good to me i usually use ca's base last time i tried frying off the dry spices 1st which changed the colour of it but not really the taste, i also think that the brand of spices that are used can changed the colour because some are darker than others.
As for the chicken tikka i cook mine under the grill giving them a brush with oil that gets the chared look that you get off the bbq and doesn't dry them out.

I lived on the island for 15 years and I know it is a desolate place for spices, Easyweigh were ok but not great,
I used to use Spicesofindia, free delivery if you spend over ?30, and no rip off charges to post to the island,

You could also try popping your tikka on a piece of foil, then putting them under a grill which has been pre-heated at the highest temperature it will go. Just give them a couple of turns whilst cooking and keep an eye on them.

I saw spicesofindia when I did a seach online so will give them a go when I need a refill.  Have lived here for nearly a year now and love it although I do miss Waitrose.
