To be perfectly honest, I do not think I have ever made a base using a recipe found here other than those that I have myself posted (i.e., KD1 and variants thereof), although I /think/ I once made a CA base when he asked for my opinion on one of his recipes, but if I did the results were not memorable (to say the least).  When compared to a KD base, there is not a lot of difference after dilution and blending, although there may well be less oil in the Shaheen version.

I've just made a madras with this I would compare the taste similar to using pataks commercial mild curry paste but slightly sweeter it's quite an acceptable taste but I would only advise using this for the stronger tasting curries

The second photo is of the base gravy when removed from the packet and not the cooked madras

For use as a base, it looks far too concentrated to create bir curries imo. Might be a good addition when used in this way

Guys i believe that Phil dilutes it with an equal amount of water and then blends till smooth before use

Hello Edwin Yes I diluted mine down nothing wrong with it really its just strong flavoured compared to some of the home made version it's not versatile enough to be used for Ceylon, chicken masala korma Ceylon type dishes and for that reason I will continue to stick to my favourite Zals base recipe but a least I was willing to try it

Its a good idea & I think I'll pick some up to use in place of mix powder.
But I normally find ready made products spiced differently than what i've learned from the bir methods available.

Cheers CAB I'm going to give it a go as I don't really use a great deal of base so can't justify  making a big batch

Hi

Here's my recent madras sauce using diluted Shaheen base in a pack and making a zeera madras sauce! I also reduced the oil in the main curry to 1 tbsp rather than 4 and for me it was very close and certainly an acceptable healthy alternative. Prawns going in tomorrow, can't wait

Guys diluted 1:1 and used to make a prawn madras with CTs madras recipe made a very acceptable curry even with only 1tbsp of oil in the curry! Saucy curries back on the menu every fortnight
