Chicken Tikka Dhansak
« on: June 22, 2013, 11:03 PM »
Just whizzed this one up from British Indian Style Cooking, Volume 2.

Restaurant quality. 10/10.  I was a bit low on base gravy, so it's also restaurant portion size.  Will be making this dish on a regular basis from now on.  Hot, sweet and sour, with pineapple. Proper dhansak

Rob  :)

Looks great Rob. There's so many members posting wonderful looking curries these days which shows how far the forum has come.

I made this one myself last night and it was much enjoyed by my good lady wife and me! It's the first time I've made a Dhansak with pineapple and I was pleasantly surprised.

I increased the ingredient quantites by 50% to make a meal for two although I halved the chilli (out of respect for my wife's palate!). I used mickdabass's chicken tikka, Zaal base and Abdul's 8-Spice spice mix, so it wasn't made strictly according the recommended recipe ingredients, but not quite in the realm of my grandfather's axe!

My "favourite" recipe folder is starting to bulge a bit nowadays, but I'll make some more room for this one. :)

... not quite in the realm of my grandfather's axe!

That threw me for quite a while, but I now think I begin to get the idea -- would it be along the lines of "three new shafts and two new heads, but other than that it is exactly the same axe that my grandfather always used" ?

Just like all the other dishes you've posted over the last week or so Rob, very tasty looking.  Bit more saucey than the Dhansaks i've seen friends of mine eat.  This is one curry (of many) that i haven't tried but I think I need to give it a go, with and without pineapple.  I see Moike's mix powder playing its part in the colouring there  ;)  Just tried the meethi chicken YUM YUM  :P
