I bought this which arrived today along with my stick blender (15 days after purchase date, also the cut off date for asking for a refund, unbelievable.)
Not impressed with mine, even though it cost only 1/3 of yours !

I thought it was pretty decent. I decided not to over do it on my wushof, but I picked a really old / el-cheapo knife and thought the results with cutting paper were impressive. From not being able to cut paper to cutting through quite easily. I noticed some improvements chopping onions with the wusthof. I still struggled to peel them, but one they were peeled, I finely chopped 2 onions for tonight's dinner, half-carrot, a chili and some coriander finely than I've ever done. I guess I'm lucky, but I am likely to only use it again on the wusthof if it goes blunt, until then I'll just keep the habit of honing it before and after use.

How is your experience disappointing, Phil?

Well, from a number of perspectives (tried with various knives, incl. Kitchen Devil Pro, Sabatier, etc.) --

1.  The knife did not bite evenly in the sharpener, skidding in places
2.  There was no obvious improvement compared to my earlier Tchibo sharpener (two angled carborundum wheels)
3.  My standard test (tomato skin) shewed no improvement.

Today I tried an experiment and moistened the blade edge with neat washing-up liquid.  This improved the regularity of the bite, and the test (non-standard) produced transparent cucumber slices with relative ease.

I love mine. Super cheap and put a working edge on my long neglected knives. Maybe it's not going to produce samurai sword type razor edges but for getting blunt knives back in shape it's ideal.

Must say brought myself one and a few more for Christmas presents ( I know cheapskate )

Well, now that I have the Real Thing[TM] (inherited from the estate of a friend who sadly died recently, along with his fish, filter, pumps, and a few other odds and ends), I am forced to agree that they are great.  My ?Chinese? clone was a heap of (moderated), but his genuine one is absolutely superb, and has restored our much-loved Robert Dyas knife-set-in-wooden-block to virtually as-new condition.  I would love to know the Rockwell hardness of the V-shaped sharpening elements

Forgot to say a cheap good sharpener may be good initially, however they take a fair bit of metal off each sharpen. Hence the life of your blade is shortened.

Well, as it came without packaging, I cannot say for sure where it was made, but what I will do is to post photographs of the genuine one and the fake.  The font, font size and inter-word spacing of "AnySharp" are enough to differentiate my two, but of course there may well be other fakes on the market.  And yes, I know it will tear my knives to bits if used too often, but if they hold their edge after resharpening as well as they held it when new, that won't be a problem in my lifetime :)
