I bought a SS 16psi cooker from Aldi a couple of weeks ago, ?24 plus change.
I've been waiting a good while to get a sensibly priced high pressure one, low pressure ones are too slow.
Cubed beef / lamb etc takes 20 minutes to perfection for curries or pies or suchlike.

Give Aldi a try.

Thanks Rocky. Nearest Aldi to me is 20 miles away, but it's not too far from one of my favourite Asian stores, so next time I'm stocking the spice cupboard up I'll take a look.

I suspected that might be the case with the Tower

I bought a low cost pressure cooker from Argos a few years ago and it works perfectly well. It's either Tower or Prestige. I'd be amazed if more expensive models from the likes of Fagor or a German supplier are significantly better. Spare gaskets might be more difficult to buy, also. Why cancel your order on the basis of one bit of questionable feedback, going against the grain of numerous good reviews? I can't believe it would work at only 7psi. It would throw out all the times given in pressure cooker recipe books.

That's the reason why i returned it George, it just didn't save me any time when cooking, also the pressure cooker didn't come with a cookbook.

It wasn't just that, George. Unclefrank's comment simply made me realise that, yet again, I had made an impulsive purchase through impatience. (I'm seeking therapy for this.) Whether or not the Tower is a great pressure cooker or not, as said I'd set my heart on a stainless steel model.

As for reviews, I do read them, but time has taught me that the only ones I can truly trust are those gained through personal experience, i.e., mine.

Why? What's wrong with aluminium for a pressure cooker? Given a choice at the same price, I'd go for aluminium and I'm curious why you're thinking differently.

Just personal preference, George. Nothing to do with any (perceived) health issues regarding aluminium (all my curry pans, bar the black iron ones, are aluminium), but over the years I've built up a nice collection of top quality stainless cookware, and (coming out of the closet here), I love nothing more than spending a Sunday afternoon with my Bosch GPO 14 CE 240V 1400W polisher, buffing kit and G7 compound bringing them up to a mirror-smooth shine. I've tried to stop, but it's hopeless.

Along with the obsessive-compulsive-impulsive purchase of random unnecessary or unwanted items, inability to stop adding chillies to everything I consume, and a worrying addiction to adrenaline-based activities, it's clear that I have issues...

why dont you splash out on a Kuhn Rikon SD . May make you cry when you see the price
