How to Upload Your Photos

1.0   Background and Scope:

This procedure summarises how to the upload photos.  The procedure is also suitable for uploading other attachment types (i.e. txt, doc, pdf and mpg formats).

When uploading photos, the following constraints currently apply (subject to change):


  • File types = jpg, gif and png
  • Maximum file size = 1.5MB (per photo)
  • Maximum number of files = 4 (per post)

Before you can upload your photos, you need to resize and compress them.  This ensures that:


  • the photos fit neatly into the picture frame
  • the photos load suitably quickly
  • efficient and economical use is made of server space.

2.0   Resizing and Compressing Your Photos:

Use any suitable photo-editing software (e.g. PaintShop Pro, Paint-Brush, Photoshop, etc), to edit your photos, as follows:


  • Resized Image Size:     700 pixels wide by 525 pixels deep (scroll bars will be generated for larger photos)
  • Compressed File Size:  ~ 100 to 300 kB (but <1.5MB maximum)

Save you photo, with a suitable file name, for later retrieval

3.0   Uploading Your Photos:


  • Generate a post by either starting a "New Topic" or replying to an existing one
  • Select (left-click) "Additional Options" below the text window
  • Select (left-click) "Browse" next to the "Attach" field
  • Navigate to your photo and select it (double left-click or "Open")
  • Select (left-click) "More Attachments" if you wish to post additional photos
  • When you have selected the photos you wish to post, select (left -lick) "Preview" (to preview your photos) or "Post" (to post you photos) at the bottom of  the page

How do you insert pictures in the body of the text of a post? I can follow the procedure above as far as inserting a picture, but when I click on the preview button the post doesn't show the inserted picture, just the text. What I'd like to do is show pictures in the body of the text describing the various stages in making my base and curry.

I think it places all the photos after the text?  Unless someone else knows differently?

Hi Folks ;)

You could also register for a free account at photobucket and use the image tags to post a link to your photo.....it saves the forum's bandwidth and storage space (if there's any limits).

Please note that the method of posting images on the forum has changed.

Rather than posting them directly, please upload them to the cr0 image hosting server here:

The process is pretty self explanatory.

Maximum image size is 1MB, but significantly smaller sizes will usually suffice.

You should resize your image to around 600 - 700 pixels wide by 450 - 525 pixels high (preserving the aspect ratio of your image).

Free photo-editing software can be found here:  http://download.cnet.com/PhotoScape/3000-2192_4-10703122.html?tag=mncol

Copy and paste one of the supplied links into your post on this forum and your image (or a link to it if you use "Direct Link") will appear directly in your post.  If you copy and paste the "Embed on Bulletin Boards" link, your images will appear directly in your post.

Please refrain form using other methods to post your images.

This method has been established to ensure that the forum does not lose any photos in the future (which may happen if you use your own image hosting server).

It has also been established to overcome capacity issues on the forum, that have occurred from time to time, when posting images directly on the forum.

I hope this is sufficiently clear to enable members to post their images in this preferred manner.

Please don't hesitate to raise any queries you may have.
