Hello everyone. I am looking to get a new hand blender and I am wondering what everyone out there uses and how satisfied you are with them. I am hoping to make a purchase based on long term opinions of the variety of blenders that are available. I will be using it to mainly blend up my bases.
Thanks
Rob

I prefer my Kenwood Major with jug blender for blending bases, but for routine use it is hard to beat the value, power, performance and 3-year guarantee of a 600W SilverCrest hand blender from Lidl at GBP 11-99.

Hi Phil, thanks for the reply. I did read about the SilverCrest blenders somewhere here but when I do a search for them it says the offer is finished. I did look in my local Lidl and they had nothing in there either. I could use my Magimix but I would have to do it in several batches, and I'm a bit lazy when it comes to washing up and so find a hand blender easier. Also I use the Magimix for anything other than curries.

The blender offer is a regular one, so just sign up for the Lidl e-newsletter and you'll be told twice a week of the immediately forthcoming special offers. But beware : unlike Aldi, and for reasons known only to themselves (but which I very much suspect has to do with SEO), Lidl do /not/ list all the items coming on offer in the newsletter; instead, they list one or two examples of each major genre, and you then have to click on one of those examples to see the full list. So for SilverCrest blenders, just keep an eye open for kitchen items.

I have to agree, for just over a tenner Silvercrest blenders are hard to beat. Keep your eye open they come round every couple of months.
-
Thanks for that, I will keep an eye open and I've signed up for the newsletter.

I've had a Waring like below for a few years.
Blending 5 & 7 ltrs batches of gravy or soup is a doddle with it, seeds & all. Was around the 50 quid mark though.

I have the same blender as Phil and it works a treat - it will come up again in their stores.
-
Sounds like it might be a good idea to wait for it to come around again and continue to swear at my current 150w one. Blending is a bit like watching paint dry at the moment but I have to say I'm amazed it hasn't gone into meltdown. Have you had the silvercrest for long?
-
I like my Kenwood Tri-Blade (700W). We had one at work and it got some hammer and seemed to cope well.
-
SoberRat,
The Kenwood tri-blade 700w works for me,
worth every penny.
A found it a good compromise between quality and price.
Over the years I have used cheaper blenders and they failed and were inefficient.
I would give this Kenwood tri-blade 8/10 (for a home blender)
for power, noise and efficiency.
Hope this helps.

The best I've ever seen are the Bamix ones. Seen them demo'd at the NEC a couple of times. They look the dogs doo dahs and very versatile too. There's only one reason I don't own one tho...???s..but I've bowed to one day treat myself.

I nearly bowed down but they are dear. They even go for good money second hand.

Receipt (sellotaped to the box) says 29th November 2012.

I have seen that the Bamix is good but I was a bit puzzled by the low wattage (160w) in comparison with others. My parents own one and they have said that it is good but they don't blend many base gravies.
-
Steal it, they won't mind. ;)

That is going well for the money then. I think even if I do get an expensive one I will get one of these when they come up again anyway.

Worth a try ;) I am currently using the one they had before the bamix, so an old hand me down.

Thanks for that, it was one that I am looking at, I agree about the price, it seems to be good value.

I've had two 600W SilverCrest blenders in the last 8 years, both very good for base.
Except the plastic cup on the latest version cracked and out of warranty, but when I
see them again in store, I'll get another, but I hope its their new German version.

That does look good. I like the name - stabmixer. I think the blades should do the job. Here's hoping that it's the same version as that. Thanks for the info.
-
I'll be keeping an eye on Lidl as I think I'm due a new one as my current Braun one is 18+ years old and only packing 160 Watts.
London.
-
Sounds like you have the same one as me. Mine is a Braun with a mere 160w too, it just doesn't cut the mustard (or blend the base).
-
It was only after reading this thread that I realised how long I've had mine and how under powered it was, I'm sure when I got it it was state of the art. :)

And a 3 year warranty, you can't go wrong, I'll be getting one and retiring my old 160w blender.

Me too! Thanks for the info.

Shame :'( their not doing the German version, as it looks a step up.

The Lidl site does say hand blender set with attachments so it might be worth a look first.

I now have my new blender and it's not the German version, but still very good value for money.
London,
-
Did the Lidl one come with a jug and various other attachments (which I got in the past)?
I've noticed they sometimes sell one without the bits and bobs, maybe that one is like the German one.
-
Yes it did come with a bowl and attachments.
London.
-
Might explain it then - http://www.lidl.de/de/silvercrest-stabmixerset-ssms-600-c3/p190138?fromRecommendation=true&scenario=also_clicked (http://www.lidl.de/de/silvercrest-stabmixerset-ssms-600-c3/p190138?fromRecommendation=true&scenario=also_clicked)
Germans do the same as ours too

I think you're right. Mate.

Made some more base with the silvercrest blender and I have to say that it is so much better. I sieve my base and this time the ball of debris was a quarter of the size of my last lot. This means there is less flavour being thrown away IMO. Bargain price for this blender.
-
I looked at this blender in lidle SR but didn't buy, I may still see if they have any, as my bamix is gettin on now.
-
I know the Bamix is very good but it does cost a lot more than the Lidl one and as the silvercrest comes with a 3 year warranty I just thought it was worth trying, I'm glad I did.
-
Bamix is ok it was a gift from my wife , but after a few years I'm not so impressed with the speed. It's a good build but IMO it's not worth the cash.
-
That is the difference that I noticed with the silvercrest over the Braun that I had before. It was 150w and just didn't seem to blend by comparison. If this one only lasts 3 years it will have paid for itself as it will only be used for BIR. I got 2 so that one is used for other things.
-
I will drop by tomorrow and see if there is any left.
