Since Mrs G is out for dinner tonight with her mate, and I can't be @rsed making something, have ordered takeaway. Went for Bengali tonight as Chewy's always raving about them :)
Half an hour to go before arrival, so will report back later.
Masaledar Badak
Lamb Jarjala
Plain Naan
Looking forward to it :)
-
Excellent Garp! A few pics would be nice if you get chance. The more porn the better.
Rob :)
-
Will do, Rob :)
-
I've never heard of these dishes so am looking forward to your feedback Garp.
-
If they ever arrive, SL >:(
-
Well, you've certainly got my taste buds going with this. ;) I know the Duck starter, but I haven't heard of the Jarjala. Funnily enough, I'm sure I've had the Duck in an Nepalese Restaurant, but I may be wrong. :)
Looking forward to any porn if poss............Oh, and enjoy, hope it comes soon!....... ;D

Chinese for me tonight and a disappointing Singapore Vermicelli at that. >:( Hope yours is better Garp. Would that be from the Taste of Bengal by any chance?

Where else in this small town mate :)
I know the Duck starter
Well spotted on the duck Dan.
Anyway, according to the menu:
Masalader Badak: Finely shredded duck breast, lightly spiced and served wrapped in a puri on a bed of mint and yogurt sauce.
Lamb Jarjala: Cooked with garlic, chilli, mustard paste and cream - garnished with spring onion and red pepper.
Verdict:
Haven't had the starter yet though had a wee taste of the duck and it was good.
The Lamb Jarjala was very nice. I'm not good at picking out particular hints of certain spices (and not pretentious enough to pretend). It was medium hot, oniony, garlicky, very nice thickish texture and the lamb was melt in the mouth. Little or no tomatoes. What more do you want?
Being used to eating Punjabi dishes, I felt the background spicing was more subtle and less in-yer-face than the dishes I am used to - but a nice kick of chilli. No bad thing.
Overall, no complaints :)
Porn warning - first up the starter which I have just laid out for future eating:

Lamb Jarjala - looks quite bland but tasted lovely.

Looks and probably tasted better than what i had.
-
Glad it tasted good. To be honest tho, it does all look a bit..... brownish! ;)
Dann
-
Yeah it does, Dan. Maybe it's a Bengali thing? I don't know :)
-
Puris don't travel well. Always thought for TA they should be wrapped in foil or something, and whatever goes on them separate, letting the customer sort it out. The main looks OK though, as does the naan. Hope it was satisfactory Garp. If not, get the pan out.
Rob :)
-
The main was very nice Rob. I don't see much wrong with a brown curry that tastes good.
No need to make them fluorescent red in my book :)
-
No Bengali Chips :)
You must have spent over a Fiver there Garp Well done ;)

He'll be needing a lie down. ;)

Agreed. Vivid colours in dishes, if needed, are straightforward with natural ingredients; spices etc. However, have to say my latest tikka botti is looking mighty resplendent in KTC deep orange.
Rob :)

I recon he's shedding a tear right now ;D
-
Reckon that starter cost a tidy penny.
Rob :)

Sorry guys, I'm all 'teared' out.
I shed so many tears of laughter at England's World Cup exploits that I think the glands have sealed up :P
-
That's cheap again Garp ;D
I hope you suffer from bad wind tonight Poor Mrs G
-
Just responding to your cheap shots mate :)
-
Oops! The penny has dropped. I honestly thought it was a TA.
Rob :)
-
Sorry Garp I didn't realise you guys were so sensitive :o
-
I don't think I'm being sensitive. Just having a bit of jovial banter. Maybe you are a little sensitive and Gav and Bob who joined in with a bit of banter?
Anyway, who do you guys fancy for the World Cup now Engerland are home?
-
Me sensitive, never. and with regards to the World Cup not that I'm a football lover but France look good. I much prefer the sport your pint-pot local used to do, Allan McNish. oh and the other one from along the road, DC
-

Would be nice if Scotland would even qualify once in a while. ;D
The last time Scotland qualified for the World Cup was in France in 1998 :o

Well, there'll be nae mair o' ye, laddie, once ye've been granted independence -- the UK Border Agency have been specially instructed to intercept any would-be Scottish immigrants once ye've a country of your ain tae live in :)

There are only few things which make me even consider voting yes.
1/ David Cameron and the thought of another Tory-led government.
2/ The rise of UKIP and the seemingly general anti-Europe feeling down South.
3/ The SNP attitude to nuclear weapons and nuclear power.
If the the main Westminster parties could agree on and announce further devolution of power to the Scottish parliament, I think the independence debate would be over.
-
From Indian Takeaway to main stream politics. We're good ;D

Chances are Phil that with the neoliberal scum that are currently running the country (and I use the term "running" very liberally there) itll be the Scots doing their level best to keep the massive influx of English out!
-
Loving the banter.

Chances are Phil that with the neoliberal scum that are currently running the country ...
"Neoliberal scum" ? As far as I can see, all vestiges of liberalism have been conveniently expunged from the manifesti of all major parties, who are instead trampling each other to death in their rush to pander to the xenophobic wishes of the scumbag immigrant-bashers of our sceptred isle who want to keep out not only our fellow EU citizens but also those from our former colonies, dominions and empire, never mind those who simply want to escape persecution, torture and probable death in their own countries for being (e.g.,) Christian or homosexual ...
** Phil.

What did you order again Garp? :)
-
What did you order again Garp? :)
Potted shrimps, roast beef, and spotted dick -- proper English food, not that foreign muck that the neoliberal scum who 'govern' this country want our nation to be overrun with !

As I'm multicultural, chuck some Ballards haggis in the mix and I'm there.
NB And misdirected due to a misread user name. Nice introduction.... welcome to the forum :-\ :)

;D

Potted shrimps, roast beef, and spotted dick
I believe David Cameron likes to eat dick, spotted or otherwise..........
Or maybe he just likes to eat Nick.....

You jest, Sir. Have you seen the fragrant and mouthwatering Mrs Cameron ? A man could eat that all day and all night, and never want to come up for air !
-
It's all a smokescreen, Phil, to divert attention from his true sexual orientation.
Not that I've anything against gays btw.

Moderated: image with obscene wording removed.
Why post it when you know it must count against you?

Politicians -- the very last people you would want or trust to run a country (Michael Heseltine and Sir Anthony Wedgewood-Benn excluded, of course).

Somehow Phil, the picture you posted of the delightfully fragrant and mouthwatering Mrs Cameron reminded me of one of the entries from Rogers Profanisaurus - The Magna Fartna
Air Tulip: n A delightfully fragrant (moderated), as dropped by Lady Di or Grace Kelly, but not Jocky Wilson.
What goes on in my head I do not know. ???

The effect of too many curries, I fear. A man who spends his entire life (moderated) sees others only as his fellow contenders in the obnoxious effluvia stakes ...

I can't argue that one. ;) I believe its where the game 'Top Trumps' originated from before someone adapted it to collecting cards.
And as i recollect I've only ever been Top Trumped once and even that is open for debate but not I'm afraid in front of Samantha Cameron.

I should hope not too, Sir ! (Now proceeds to completely demolish original theme of thread by re-telling ancient and hackneyed joke).
"At a recent Dinner at the Mansion House, Her Gracious Majesty was unfortunately struck by a bout of uncontrollable wind, and passed an extremely loud and unpleasant (moderated) right in front of the Lord Mayor and assembled company. Immediately, the British Ambassador to Burma, who was seated on her left, rose to his feet, and offered a most humble apology to the Lord Mayor and fellow guests before leaving the room. A few minutes later, H.M. again broke wind, and this time the Chairman of the Baltic Exchange, who was seated on her right, immediately rose, apologised and left. When this happened for the third time, both the British Ambassador to Korea /and/ the Chairman of Lloyds rose to apologise, but before either could speak, the American Ambassador was on his feet and in a voice that could be heard throughout the room said with complete sincerity "No, no, ma'am -- Have /this/ one on me !".

Phil, nice to have you back.
Don't worry, this thread has had more twists and turns than an Olympic diving final. Brown curries to politics to the (moderated) of famous women.
But watch out - there's a moderator about 8)

Yep you've been counted against, what ever that means?
I also notice that there has been a lot of tidying up of bad language done over the whole forum.
Can't find any of my favourite swear words. :(
-
I think I detect the whiff of lavender.
Also, Tony Benn supported Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge and Chairman Mao - AFTER the evidence of genocide and mass rape became public. Although, he had some nice anecdotes and a sparkle in his eyes.
