My first attempts gave me the wow factor, as they were obviously closer than I had ever got before, but since then I've also felt there was something significant missing.

Well done for getting good results so quickly. Perhaps the element missing is in line with what almost everybody else feels is missing, even after almost a decade of trying - the elusive final 5% or thereabouts.
