« on: August 19, 2012, 08:10 AM »
Hi there   :D I am a Brit living in Dubai, although you can get some pretty good British curries here, I have always wanted to be able to make my own! I stumbled across this site this morning and I just can't wait to try some of the recipes, especially as I have friends coming for a curry in a couple of weeks :D

Hi there   :D I am a Brit living in Dubai ...
Welcome, oh UAE resident (or should I say "as-salamu alaykum" ?).  My wife is now living in Abu Dhabi, and she and some friends drove all the way to Dubai a couple of nights ago just to watch a film.  Crazy !  You are surely living in DIY curry heaven, with fresh goat meat so easily available : I have to take a train to buy mine.  Has the moon been sighted and is Ramadan over yet in Dubai ?

** Phil.

Thank you :D  I have to agree with the crazy bit there lol  Haven't seen goat meat I have to say, I do normally buy my meat in spinney's or waitrose so not likely to see it I should think!! Must have a look for it though, have never eaten goat!   Yes thank goodness, Ramadan is officially over as from today, so just got back from lunch and a pint :D

hi buttercup - I used to live in Dubai - '76 to '84.  With all the fantastic eating places in Dubai - don't know why you would bother making your own while you are there.

I see you know Ravi at Satwa - brilliant chicken tikka, naan & curry sauce.  Their butter chicken is pretty good too.  Also try the Khyber Restaurant - near Bur Dubai police station - again fantastic food - their chicken butter boneless & Khyber special veg is brilliant.  Kwality restaurant is excellent too.  Don't forget to give the lamb shwarmas a bash too - fantastic taste.

I have been back in '93 & 2007 - whilst the food hasn't changed one bit - a lot of Dubais 'old charm' has vanished
