I confess : I viewed, but did not know what to say.  All I could think of was the awful anecdote recounted by Sir Tommy MacPherson in /Behind Enemy Lines/; undercover during WW-II, he saw a group of Italian officers take shelter in a cellar from an air raid; he pulled open the cellar door, threw in a live hand-grenade, then slammed the door shut.

OK, so it was war, and with the exception of the Geneva Convention there are no rules; but does that really justify what I can only view as cold-blooded murder ?

Although I agree in part with Graeme's observation :

I cannot help but think that it was only "funny" because these were two anonymous Russians.  Now suppose they had been "fellow Americans", or even (G@d forbid) the President and the First Lady : how funny do you think the reporters would have found it then ?

I posted the video as I was bewildered at the immense stupidity portrayed within it. One would think that you would at least toss the grande away from oneself as opposed to simply dropping it over the side of an inflatable boat that you and your colleague are standing at the side of!


As for the commentators reaction, well I can only imagine she laughed as the two men survived in one piece, I am sure if they had been blown to pieces, it would have provoked an altogether different response. But I will admit to have been baffled by her response.

"Stupidity", Comrade ?  Do not judge glorious Russian intellect by pathetic standards of Western capitalist lackies.  Dimitry Vasilych knows that Anatoly Kiriakin screwing wife behind back, and makes very careful enquiries of arms dealer as to danger zone of grenade in water.  Removes pin, counts to three and half, then drops grenade.  Poof.  Anatoly Kiriakin's b@ll@cks blown to smithereens, Dimitry Vasilych sustains just enough minor injuries to avoid finger of suspicion.  Glorious result for Dimitry Vasilych , end of all screwing around for Anatoly Kiriakin.  So no stupidity, Comrade, just glorious Russian intellect at best.  You Westerners have much to learn.
