I'm sure the large 8mm square profile is fit for the job, but when was the last time you were served tikka or kofte with such a large whole in it? ;)

I dont notice the hole with these flats Malc. I can thread each piece of meat 3 times quite easily, although it can be scary  ;D (always in fear of self inflicted stigmata)

Actually, why am i threading them!! I just need to slide them on whole.  ::)
Speaking of holes, When i used to buy kebab rolls from Deans in Croydon, they would ask if you want it hot?
Of course!  ;D
They would then push 3 fresh whole green chillies into the hole of each seekh kebab :P

still trying to find some for myself... the ebay sellers don't sell them overseas  :'(

Goncalo and anyone else struggling to find ingredients or equipment used in Indian restaurants, why dont you ask in your local restaurant/t.a?
If they cant source the items for you, then they'll surely point you in the right direction.  :)

Good point, indeed DP! I must give it a try, although I find that the pakistanis running indian TAs here aren't quite friendly

Would be good indeed, but their p&p is about as expensive as the skewers themselves... very frustrating

Trouble finding skewers that are 8cm with a reasonable price. May have a chance of 4cm: the question is what material difference would there be when only using them for kebabs [or others that i have not thought of]?

I say this because of an interesting point was raised using chillies also, but would not a 4cm just as well do that task?

Unless anyone can provide me with a clarified and definitive answer as to why it should be 8cm, then I'm lost [once again  :-\]

Are you sure you are searching for the right thing ?  The skewers you are after are 8mm, not 8cm ...

Maybe its because 4mm is quite small and the meat might still spin even though being square?  :-\
It was the price and the shape of the steel flats that sold it for me. I knew the meat would stay in place with those, and for a quid each i couldnt go wrong.  ;)
