I've usually been happy to pay for 'quality' chicken breast but I was surprised at some  price differences recently:-

I normally get Asda 'Butchers Selection' - no added water at ?7.77 per kilo pack.  Sainsburys is even more expensive.  I've not checked out local butchers as I assumed they wouldn't be competitive but I'm probably wrong about that!

My Asian Grocers sells chicken breast for ?4.50 a kilo, yet I'm reluctant to try  :(  Just don't want it sitting in the car for minimum of 40-45 mins until I get home.

Doubt my local take-aways shop at asda though!!

Where do other members get their chicken from and how much do they pay per kilo?

Used to get everything from supermarkets at one time but no more.  Crazy prices.  Prime chicken breast fillet form my local butcher who has a long-term deal at 2 lb for 3.99.  Mutton leg and lean mince from a Halal butcher also nearby at 5.00 per kilo or less.  Recommend avoiding cheap lamb mince from supermarkets.  I bought some once and the white (saturated) fat content was staggering compared to leaner produce.

Dunno what beef prices are like in the UK but I get whole rumps from the local butcher for around GPB 8 a kilo. the full rump has a tougher end and a more tender end, so I get the butcher to slice off from the tender end for about half way, then just get the tougher end as a single lump.

Then I remove fat and tendons etc and turn it into one inch cubes and freeze in a couple of batches. I marinate and precook a batch for around an hour and a half and it's ideal for beef recipes.
