Hello, like many people now I'm on a very tight budget and until recently I've been buying the ready made Korma and Tikka curries from Sainsbury's deli section, as they taste alot like restaurant curries, however they are still quite expensive and you don't get much meat in them. So I tried to cook Chicken Korma using Pataks korma paste and followed the instructions on the jar but it was disgusting and tasted like vinegar, has anyone else had that problem or am I just a really bad cook :-\. Anyway that's why I joined this forum to find a really good Korma recipe, so we can carry on with our traditional Friday night Curry night treat.  Thanks Jackie

Hi Jackie,

No, you're not a really bad cook and I think everyone of us here has experienced what you have.

Have a good read through the sections, and try to find something simple to start with.  I would suggest, looking for a mixed powder aka, curry masala, spice blend, curry masala.  Then try to find a decent base gravy recipe and finally, look for a recipe to make your dish.

Hi Jackie, welcome to the forum.

Not quite sure how you rate pre-packaged curries so highly, none of them get close to the real thing in my opinion.

With a little practice and understanding and by following some of the tried and tested recipes here you should soon be producing dishes pretty close to what you would expect to find in a decent local take away and far better than you'll get in any supermarket.

I avoid those supermarket 'curry sauces' like the plague - they don't produce anything worth eating in my experience. There's no substitute for using fresh ingredients and spices and learning a few basic techniques.
