ipod help
« on: January 13, 2012, 12:33 PM »
Hi chaps, can anyone help please.

I bought my little un an Ipod touch for Crimbo, as well as a lap top (lucky boy)  Unfortunately, his lap top didn't arrive until last week.

So, I downloaded itunes on my main pc, and created his itunes library.  Now his laptop has arrived, I've downloaded itunes to his laptop but, when I connect up the ipod, I get a message saying "This ipod is synced with another itunes library, do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this library"

Now, if I'm reading this correct, it will erase all the content that he currently has on his ipod, and transfer the data (which there isn't any) from this new itunes library to his ipod.  The trouble is, he has loads of apps on his ipod, some of which are purchased.

How can I transfer the data from his ipod, to his new itunes library?

I don't really want to lose any of his apps, as a lot of them are to do with his vision (he is partially sighted)

Please help..!

Ray :(

Sorry, Ray, not going to be able to help here (except by forwarding your message off-line to friends far more knowledgeable about such things that I) -- I am, quite intentionally, completely i-gnorant and techn-i-cally i-lliterate, of all i-devices.  Forwarded off-line to those that are not !

Many thanks Phil, much appreceated friend :)

I'm pretty sure that it can be done, and I suspect that If I accept the suggested action from itunes (delete and replace) that it would transfer the data from the ipod to the new library.  However, if it doesn't happen, then I will have lost a good few quids worth of downloads, which the little un will be none too pleased about.

I never realised how good these little devices were.  The things that they can do is amazing, plenty of learning apps to download and as he is partially sighted, there are lot's of suitable apps taylored for the like.  Brilliant piece of kit all in all.

Ray :)

It should be fine Ray. I had to do something similar with a new MacBook and an iPhone. Your apps are linked to the account you purchased them with anyway, so you wouldn't have to re-purchase if something did go wrong.

Also, as long as his ipod has been backed up on your PC before he plugs into the new laptop, nothing would be lost. You would be able to just plug back into your PC and re-sync the data
