Aquariums
« on: January 08, 2012, 12:27 AM »
Thought I'd start a thread for any fishkeepers here at CR0

I aint no expert though...so take it easy..please..i know less about aquariums than i do about curry :)
I've had the usual easy keepers like neon tetras, sailfin mollies, clown loaches, gouramies, danios, swordtails, barbs, siamese fighters, corydoras etc.
the usual staple diet of a community tank.
Now i have a species tank with 2 Tiger Oscars...and a Common Plec to keep them company
Tiger Oscars are great..able to train them to eat out your hand. My 5yo feeds them like this.
Only down side is that they can get rather large and are greedy fcukers.Feeding time is mental
Basically they eat anything that they can fit in their mouth...and then some
Great to watch tho..great characters.. as anyone who has ever kept one will testify :)

Hey Mr M, I love aquariums but me and fish just do not get on. :(

A BIR that I used to frequent some 15 - 20 years ago, had a massive fish tank with some truly beautiful looking fish in there.  I was absolutely mesmerised by them, much to my lovely wife's annoyance.

Funny story (I hope this gets taken the right way) I purchased a small tank from a good friend a while back, and eager to get some fish in it, I went to my local pet shop and purchased 'two' Black Moors <spelling? Anyway, as I am a massive Man United fan (no need for any comments 8)) I called one of them Yorkie, and the other Coley after our awesome pair of strikers, Dwight Yorke, and Andy Cole.  Anyway, after about a week, we woke up to find that our black fish had disappeared, and in their place were 2 'gold' fish :o

Wondering what the hell had happened, and after phoning my bezzie mate and accusing him of 'fishnapping' I eventually called in the pet shop.  They explained to me that black moors often change colour from black to gold and that it was nothing to be worried about.

Satisfied with their explanation, I went home and renamed the fish, Scholesy and Butty, after our legendary ginger midfielders, Paul Scholes and Nick Butt ;D

Alls well that ends well, as they say..!

Ray :)

Oh for the good old days when you could have called them "coloured" Moors and then it wouldn't have mattered what colour they were !

Ohhhhhhhhhh.......... how I miss my aquarium.

I had all sorts too, including Red tail sharks, a black shark with a red tail, quite spectacular.

My favourite fish though was a spotted catfish with whiskers, he was a bottom feeder and was wonderful, when we used to clean the tank out and catch him in the net, he used to make this squealing noise which sounded just like a cat it was so funny.

I think my other favourite fish were Cichlids, they were sooooo beautiful. light blue, with yellow spots and bits of red around the eye.....

One day, I would like another aquarium, well 2 actually, one for fresh water and one for salt water fish :)
