Hello all,
can't exactly remember when i had my first BIR curry, but i guess that it was about 1982 and i have loved them ever since.
Over the following years i have cooked a few traditional Indian recipes and they where quite nice, but it was always the BIR curry/takeaway that i wanted to (and could not for the life of me) replicate.
I remember several years ago when i found Kris Dillon's the "Curry Secret", i thought that i had found the Holy Grail, lol.
Now don't get me wrong, when i made my first curry base and tried Kris's recipes, the taste and texture was far better than i had achieved with anything that had gone before and i was well impressed, but over time i had to admit that this really wasn't true BIR curry (well not in my mind at least) and so basically gave up on the idea of ever being able to come close to achieving the goal.
Then the other day i stumbled across this site and thought,...... this looks pretty good!......had a mooch around......and decided to give it another go.
So far i like the look of everything I've seen, however i think i might try Cory Ander's base and recipes to kick things off with and take it from there......is that a Grail i can see on the horizon!!! ;D

Welcome to CRO. CA's base is an ideal place to start and will produce excellent results. Try Blades tikka. It is to die for and is equal to and often better than you'll get in many a restaurant. I too started with Pat Chapman and Kris Dhillon. This site wasn't available when i first started on my journey in search of cooking BIR food.
. It is truly a gem for us would be BIR cooks ;D

Hi Chilli66,
You won't go far wrong with CA's recipes. All are very well written and very easy to follow.
As with all these books such as Kris Dhillons and Pat Chapmans, it's my belief that they are the foundations of the BIR curry, the fine tuning is down to the individual. cr0 member Phil (Chaa006) has taken the KD base sauce and developed it to suit his taste

That's what it's all about in my opinion, finding something good, make small changes to suit. Word of advice, any changes that you do make, make them one step at a time and record your efforts. Making too many changes at once will almost certainly hide what has actually improved the recipe, so, small and gradual is my advice.
Good luck, and give any of us a nudge should you need any help,
Ray
