Has anyone got any tried and tested recipes that use fish as the main ingredient?

Are we talking curry based or generally?

Im not sure sauce based fish curries are a good idea. They would work fine if you used a nice firm fish like turbot, but it would be a bit of a waste of money. Lobster vindaloo anyone?

The curry fish dishes I have eaten in restaurants tend to be very lightly spiced and dry. I be most of the PIR's will have ideas on their menus to try. At home we very rarely cook fish, even then it is usually pretty unadventurous things like pan fried dover sole.

Alot of the local 'Asian' stores have frozen Bengali fish which I am keen to try. I know Shanaz has a fish dish on offer but I haven't tried it yet. I keen to pursue this area.

Hi Axe you can also try monkfish to make a curry with, a very meaty fish perfect for cooking in curries. What kind of fish curry are you looking for?

Anything and everything I guess, though the wife is strictly 'normal fish' cod, haddock, salmon, etc. so i'm looking to stick with these as opposed to shellfish etc.

I've seen a few recipes about but it would be good to see what people have tried already. Just makes a change to chicken this and chicken that, all we seem to eat at the moment is chicken. My girls love curry but the eldest isn't that keen on fish, so it would be a good way to get her to eat it.

I made a Monk Fish Madrass using CA Madras but it still tasted too fishy for me, I'll be sticking to Lamb and Chicken. To be fair to it tough it held together well and if you like fish, would be a good (if expensive) main meal.

I definitely think Monk Fish is a way to go forward. My mind set has me thinking the fish should be cooked separately from the sauce which would then be poured over. Monk Fish works well as a kebab so some sort of tikka preparation would work.

I'm fairly confident that the ABC will lend itself to fish. The Balti flavours it delivers are certainly delicately balanced enough to use with fish. I reckon a Monk Fish Balti is just around the corner. Especially as our new fridge freezer is empty and needs filling up with lots of freshly made base.

Hi

Axe have you asked at the IG, I seem to remember they were offering to do you some Bengali food. Or ask at the Asian store they always have packets of fish masala paste.

Regards
