« on: April 06, 2011, 12:18 AM »
Just came across this mechanically narrated video, not exactly BIR either but I think its worth posting just for the tip about chopping chilli.

I loved her accent : she could tell me how to cook curries all night long  :)  As far as recipes goes, it seemed fine to me (perhaps too much tomato), and it seemed to go wrong only at the very end, where (a) I would have had the coriander chopped and waiting, not started to chop it once the prawns were ready to serve, and (b) despite the narrative saying to turn off the heat, the pan will still clearly being heated at the time the coriander was stirred in.  Two minor criticisms, they certainly don't detract significantly.  Definitely worth a try, particularly if you are into prawn curries.

P.S. I did like the euphemism for the prawn's gut : "the dark-coloured vein"  :)

I think there are some other videos on that site you could easily find fault with, how about this one!

http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-cook-a-chicken-curry-in-ten-minutes

The chef seems to have an interesting take on how to "finely" chop an onion and garlic, and check out that nice blunt knife that she's using to saw her way through the onion  :o

The "quarter teaspoon" of salt looks more like a heaped tsp and the final result doesn't exactly look appetising.

The videos are actually quite nicely produced and they have a whole range on Indian Cookery:

I don't think the recipe is actually a 'Michelin' restaurant recipe, moreover a recipe provided for viewers to cook at home. Cooking time alone would hamper it being a restaurant recipe, I should imagine.

However, it does look thoroughly tasty either way and the tip about the chilli is something I will try and test. You'll laugh but I have an odd method to test this. I swim everyday at a local pool and always use the sauna after. Usually if have prepared chilli the day before and despite thoroughly washing my hands, the heat from the sauna makes the chilli sting my hands. So if the oil tip works, I should expect to to feel this. Told you it was an odd method!
