Spicey Nights, Haydn Road, Nottingham

Well actually it's a takeaway, not a restaurant
But it's brilliant
I ordered for the whole family
We had:_
Madras
Vindaloo
Rhogan Josh
Punjabee
& rice
It took 25 minutes to cook

The curries were all excellent, and the Punjabee nearly took our heads off
There were sliced and whole chillies in it, but it was still full of flavour
The Rhogan Josh has a large blob of cooked garlic paste, on top of it
Very garlicky, mild, and a beautiful aroma
The madras was just what you'd hope for
A thick sauce with a chilli kick, tomatoey, garlickey and very moorish
and last but not least the Vindaloo
Round here, that's just a standard curry (but a very good one)

All the curries had a slight garam masala taste to them, and a real freshness
The rice was a little unusual
It was a bright yellow, from food colour
But all the spices had been removed
You can buy the curries separate, to the rice
So if you wanted to cut costs, by using some homemade rice, you could
Excellent all round food and "I'll be back" most definitely

haldi - what's a Punjabee? In Scotland we have a dish called Punjabee Masala which is basically a sauce made with mostly tandoori masala - does that resemble what you had?

No, it's the hottest curry that they make
Very heavy on chillies and chilli powder, and loads of garlic too
All in a thck gravy sauce
I'm sure all places have a version of it but with different names
Actually I just checked, I spelt it wrong
It's Punjabi and they describe it as
" a favourite dish amonst the Punjabis. It is created by using fresh green chillies, home made spices, and yoghurt to achieve it's full flavour"
Yum!!

I'd love to know what a "home-made spice" is, Haldi : can you ask them next time you visit ?!  Darn sarf, by the way, I think this is known as a (Bangalore) Phal or a Tindaloo (note : "T", not "V").

Thanks for this - definitely not the kind of dish I was thinking of. Is this dish typically found on menus in your area haldi?
