An Indian Housewife's Recipe Book
« on: December 23, 2010, 01:22 PM »
Having just downloaded and installed the free "Kindle for PC" software from Amazon, I then followed up on Amazon's recommendations and came across An Indian Housewife's Recipe Book.  The reviews seems very positive, and I am tempted : what do others (including George-the-cynic) think ?

Thanks, Haldi.  So, after 2 1/4 years, do you still use it at all ? Did you find enough in it to justify the GBP 3-59 that Amazon are currently asking ?

There's nothing in it that you can't find online
I enjoy recipe books, so it's nice to have
But, no, I've not cooked from it since I first got it
I don't know about you, but I have a backlog of recipes to try, and not enough time!

Understood.  I am tempted (since I can get it for even less than the base Amazon price), but I already have one book by the same author in the same series, and since you can "look inside" courtesy of Amazon, I can try any recipe I like (the Chicken Vindaloo looks worth a try) before buying ...

Hi,

I have the book and have cooked from it. The curries it makes are nothing like a BIR. They are what Asians would eat at home. I worked with a couple of Asian guys and showed them what I had made when I took some to work. They said it was exactly what they cooked. They even showed me the meal they were having that day and it was pretty much the same as what I had made. Nevertheless, what I made from using the book was tasty, but nowhere near a BIR style curry. Hope this helps.

Steve.
