Hi Phil,
I think you're correct, everybody who joins the forum, has to, to enable them to have full access. Maybe it didn't need to be one of the options as it really is a "given"?
The way it panned out for me was;
1, to gain full access,
2, to learn recipes and techniques,
3, to "chit chat" or discuss recipes,
4, to "chit chat" with like mined people about curries, BIR's and TA's,
5, to "friendly" debate recipes and techniques from different regions,
6, to have a bit of friendly banter with other members
I put them in that order because, that's the way I feel my time on cr0 has developed.
I've got to admit, I really would like to see a greater contribution from our quieter members, if only to get to know them a bit better and hopefully, uncover a competent cook in presence.
I can understand certain members reluctance to post, especially when you have a few prolific posters, like myself, commenting in every single post! It's almost as if they (the quiet ones) see us as the "experts" and doubt their own contribution.
Of course, we are not experts by any means and I think that we would do well to remember that! The "meet and greet" introduction for me is one of the most important areas on the whole forum. How a new member is welcomed could well determine how much of a contribution, that member puts into the forum. A simple "welcome to the forum and good luck" is often all it takes!
