Phil - how on earth did you find, or know about, the mace site? Amazing! What sort of request did you make? That they provide access to the video they may already have, and/or that they allow us to upload our copies? They know the tape type used, so if their copy is from a master, it will be far clearer than from my grainy VHS tape.

Their copy is on Hi band U-matic format which is notionally a semi-pro format and certainly better than VHS. Takes me back about 40 years to my repair days. Many an hour spent with my head almost literally in the inner workings of these beasts.

Not I — George's last word on the subject started :

Sorry, but I think I am going to change my mind, at least for the foreseeable future. It's become too difficult and with a perceived risk which is not offset against any gain whatsoever.

Well if that's indicative of the video content then it clearly wouldn't be worth the purchase, even if it were available, which it doesn't appear to be. It looks like standard BIR fare, nothing new here.

Oh well!!  I tend to agree Santa, but I was just interested, given the recent thrust of the forum towards Birmingham Balti, as to what they were purportedly doing nearly 30 years ago.

Not to worry though.  I cooked 3 delicious dishes tonight using MDB's gravy (albeit with flavour enhancements).  I rate it highly as a base gravy.

I also said: "I doubt if there's a single nugget of worthwhile knowledge throughout the entire programme." You can see that from the ultra basic sauce recipe I posted.
