Eating Out Rating Sites - Any Good Ones
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:44 AM »
tend not to need to eat out much and when we do only to go to places via word of mouth.

recently been on the wirral and could not believe how many people we're in a pub at lunch time - clearly not speculative - the carvary for ?3.5 must live up to it's promise.

recently also re-found China Town in Liverpool - unfortunately in the end we could not get a handle on which are good and which not so good so ended up sticking to warrington.

in short there's always been good places around but finding them has been mainly down to luck. the question is - has www change this.

i've picked up on http://www.qype.co.uk/uk. it looks good.

does anyone have any expertise.

Same with me Jerry unless I'm miles from anywhere and I'm hungry. I do check reviews on line but am wary when I see OTT postings. Probably staff posts lol!

Hi Jerry, for any Chinatown in the world, always look for the ones with lots of Chinese people eating in them. Sounds simple but if you walk around Chinatown in London, only 4 or 5 restaurants will have a significant number of Chinese families eating in them. Those are the ones to go for!

As for generally speaking, I usually pull up a Google map of the area I'm going to then type in restaurants, or indian, or chinese e.t.c. in the search bar and it will bring up all the local matches most of which have reviews collated from other sites. There is still no guarantee they are genuine reviews but it will give you a good starting point.

Hey Jerry ,

Pleased to see you have ventured onto the Wirral, i live in Pensby and often frequent the Heswall tandoori only a small little place 20 or 30 at most.

The kitchen is even smaller which you have to pass to enter via the car park and in it are the  two chefs each a good 60 odd years old,

I don't like telling people that the food in the places i go is top notch cos i don't like to disappoint but if you get around there try it! the  food is quite reminiscent to my taste anyway to what i believe me and the older guys on here are searching for.

billycat,

much appreciate the heads up. i've put it in my wallet. had intended a visit to what's cooking (went when it 1st opened) but clearly there's no comparison on my radar.

know exactly what u mean on recommending.

ps we're following the wirral way/country park having reason to be in ellesmere port quite often

Hi

Billycat, thanks for that, having just finished a project in Saughall.( Bl@*^Y typical) Suppose we should make a map up of eateries and stores. Will try and get back over and give it a go. Thanks again.

Regards

billycat,

finally made it to Heswall Tandoori. 10 mile jaunt from ellesmere.

had real good night - the place just oozes it for me on all counts. tad expensive but that's more likely down to me being only used to TA prices.

we had portion madras curry sauce as starter followed by kashmiri and the garlic bhuna all served with garlic naan. ended up somehow with the pilau too. well stuffed.

the hot towels & baileys at the end of the evening really convinced me on the pedigree. the staff are great and it's good to be able to have a peak into the kitchen on route to the carpark.

many thanks for well exceeding our expectations. simpley brill - loved the decor (took me  longtime back)
