Morning, just after a bit of advice on curry leaves, i've seen them in a book I have, they're mentioned in several recipes, i've not seen these on sale in supermarkets and there aren't any Indian or Asian stores nearby, is there a suitable substitute for them?

No, there's no substitute for curry leaves!

However it may not matter if you're only cooking BIR style as they don't, as far as I am aware, use them much. You will find curry leaf as part of a curry powder however and that's how it gets into BIR curries.

Or are you making traditional curries, in which case you would use curry leaves, fresh or dried, both are good. In which case I can only suggest using an online store such as this one (assuming you're UK based):

curry leaves for me must be for traditional curry. i really detest the taste and can't imagine for 1 minute they are used in BIR. i chucked a big bag out a few yrs ago - i bought them following a jamie oliver recipe - just awful.

i do now have to be careful as i've had to eat my words on methi which post Dippi i'm now real big fan.

I too have a large bag of curry leaves bought - I think - for a Madhur Jaffrey experiment. Once it occurs to you that they smell faintly of wee the dish is hard to eat! My bag will be in the bin too, the next time I need shelf space for something useful.
