Hi everyone,

what a great find this website was, i knew the internet would produce for me one day.

having spent about 6 years attempting and  12 hours this week reading the whole forum i attempted my first BIR curry and sundries tonight.

Very pleased with the Pathia, missus couldnt tell the difference.  Naan deff need a pizza stone as using a frying pan was not good, but they tasted good. Rice was just amazing and could of eaten the whole of the base curry sauce on its own !!

cant wait to try all the other recipes, just need loads of time, took me like 8 hours to make enough for 5 people, XXX

Hi Grifftron and welcome.

couple of tips if I may.

1,  Try to prepare in advance ie, base, naans, rice and so on.  Nothing worse than spending the whole day in the kitchen to make what is essentially  'fast food'.  Freezing rice, naans and base is perfectly safe and doesn't really affect the flavour, in fact, rice comes out better in my opinion.

2,   Never cook your final dish on the day you have prepared all your base ingredients.  After you have spent 8 hours in the kitchen, getting everything ready for the evening meal, your nose and tastebuds will be shot to pieces.  I always find that I never enjoy my meal quite as much if I eat it on the day I prepare everything.

Hope you don't feel like I'm telling you how to "suck eggs" and all that :, it's just that I find if I stick to the above points, I mostly get good results.

Anyway, good luck on the curry front and we all look forward to viewing your post's.

good tips that razor, the rice for one was still slightly clumpy and not all seperated but 30 mins later the left overs were like perfect BIR rice.  i agree on the cook on a different day as well, all i could smell was garlic and onions for 2 days after making the base sauce, my dentist was well happy with me !!

santa, i made a 5 portion pathia, 1 litre of base which i had done on wednesday and 650g of chicken (pre cooked the UB way).

its certainly addicitive making your own currrys, i just wounder how much each curry actually cost me compared to a take away.

for all us chilli freaks out there i use this website a lot, have 20 various plants growing in my kitchen now, even got the naga to grow although i only use that for making people eat so I can laugh at their pain.

i just wounder how much each curry actually cost me compared to a take away.

I'm guessing well under a tenner for 5 portions?  My local TA's Pathia cost's ?4.50 plus ?1.50 for a prtion of rice, so that little lot would have cost you 30 quid.  Well done mate, you've saved yourself at least a score.  I'd spend the difference on beer quick, before the other half gets their hands on it ;D
