Ray was kind enough to send me a pack of his local asian grocer's basaar masala so last night I cooked a curry using that rather than any other curry powder, its a mixture with a lot of chilli powder in it and it smells awesome.
I decided to try caramelising the onions first as you can see in this picture, added a little base sauce after about 20 minutes.

Nice one Mark.
Tell us a little more of your methods and if you would do anything different next time. Would you use it again?

It was good but I reduced the sauce too much, after the wok I always bung my curries in the oven to get rid of that just cooked it smell from my nostrils and I think it reduced some more in the oven so had a very powerful and hot taste (which was good for me but not so good for the missus? ;D)
The pre cooked onions definately add a BIR element to the dish and in future I will cook them for longer on a lower heat.
Ill definately be using the basaar masala again, its nice and hot
