Good Curry places in Swindon?
« on: January 27, 2010, 05:00 PM »
Can anyone suggest good curry houses in or near Swindon? I'm going to be in that area frequently in the near future and a little local information will be helpfull.

Thanks in advance.

Hello mate,
I live in Swindon and my usual place is Jack Spice in the town centre near The Sir Daniels pub. Excellent food and service with friendly staff. I haven't been down there since before Christmas but last time I went they were doing a special Sunday-Thursday 4 courses plus poppadoms for ?9.99 !!!  Last time I had it I asked for the side dish to be boxed so I could take it home as I couldn't move.
If you go there try the Chicken Chaat starter it's top drawer.

Here is a link to the menu

Just checked my link for the menu and not all the dishes are showing up. Do a google search and try and find a better one.

Hi - I stayed in Swindon a couple of times last year and I thought the Jewel in the Crown was very good. It is in Victoria Road. A quick google search will bring up their website.

As a Glaswegian I love my curries and I would certainly recommend giving the Jewel a try.

Yes the Jewel is a very good one but I have only been twice.
This place has won restaurant of the year a couple of times in the local paper.

One of the best indian restaraunts for me is the Lalbagh in rodbourne, next to the dolphin pub. Excellent food very nice atmosphere and wonderfull staff. My father used to live very close and we ate in there all the time. Like the other posts said, the Jewel in the crown is very good and has won many awards, why not try them both!!

I went to Jewel in the crown last month, which I enjoyed. However I found they lack a bit of punch, and their non specialities eg Vindaloo, were not good.

Hi Guy's,  I live in swindon and Biblobs in Oldtown is also very good, Its been around years and has always been brilliant both food and staff. It used to be small and in the basement of a building however they have now brought or rent the place above so they have two floors both been floors refurbed. Personally I have tried the Jewel and the food is good however when comparing to bilobs my own opinion is bilobs for quality as well as price and quantity.
