Today I cooked the most awesome beef with an average sauce. (I'll post pics tomorrow/Later - also marinade recipe). I wasn't happy about the sauce but that's another matter though I think some might think its great? I don't.

This is a first for me really, (Beef). I knew I could do it but as with all things it happened slightly by accident. I marinated it for too long!  ;D

The very fact that I got this the way I wanted it has opened more doors and closed others in Indian Cooking. Lamb is much easier I feel and beef by its nature is a concept owing to spice cooking times and so on.

Anyway I'm relieved. Beef flavour is almost a background taste which is what I wanted. Again will post on this later, just excited. No Bahjis this evening, what a pity!

Yeah beef tends to get overlooked in favour of lamb but I love a Beef Madras or Rogan Josh from time to time.

Don't think I've ever had a beef curry of any kind, although I see it frequently in non-Indian curries (Thai, Malaysian...)

I also don't see it offered very often either. I guess it may be to do with cows being sacred or something of that nature.

I may try it at some point. What cuts of beef are used, and how would one pre-cook for curry?

Hi Josh. I'll post up what I do later today plus an image here.
I'm sure there are a thousand ways but I wanted to kill the taste of beef as much as possible. I was pleased and shall be doing the second batch today. Early here at the mo.

Yes the Cow is sacred which is why we don't see it too often on the menu so far as I know?

Josh I've just come off cooking it all and am starting to write the whole thing up. I do have a couple of images which I'll post too. I'm not one to feather my own cap all of the time in fact I'm highly critical of my own work and cooking but it does taste absolutely delicious. I'll post it in traditional recipes since its not the flaming BIR thing, It can't be because its beef.

Anyway hopefully later today or perhaps (Realistically) Tomorrow morning. I don't want to screw up a post like last time hahahahaha  ;D

Yes, cows are sacred to the majority of people in India (i.e. Hindu) but not to Bangladeshis (who operate most BIRs) where they are predominately Muslim. 

I'm not sure why beef isn't more prevalent on a typical BIR menu, but I don't think that a recipe containing beef otherwise prevents it from being considered "BIR"?

I work with quite a few Indian guys and speaking to them about this they say that because India has about 15% Muslim population, Hindus and Muslims tend to respect each other's sensitivities so an Indian Hindu chef would not sell beef or pork meals and a Muslim chef would not sell pork or beef meals.

I guess in Bangladesh and Pakistan where there are fewer Hindus there might be some beef recipes made up - I don't know really.

Personally I think making a curry out of beef or even pork (eg pork vindaloo) does not mean it can't be considered BIR.

....but, otherwise, they are both hell bent on blowing each other to smithereens!  ;D 

I think we'd really need to ask the Bangladeshi restaurateurs what the reason is.....(for not having beef on their menu that is!)

I depends Mikka...if it's made with using a curry base, I suggest that you post it in the BIR main dishes recipe section. 

However, if it's made without using a curry base, I suggest that you post it in the traditional recipe section.
