Least convincing restaurant dish ever?

This was some years ago in West Sussex.[Storrington I think] We ordered mattar paneer, it sounded promising on the menu. What we actually got was a tray of peas with a slice of processed cheese on top.
  Now who can beat that?

Hi Bryan,

I live near storrington now and have had currys from a couple of the BIR's there.  The Marakesh is the worst one its mainly a pizza and burger place, and I prefer my own vindaloo than what ive had from there.  The Cottage on the other hand is excellent, there currys are a blend of traditional BIR with a hint of authentic, their Korai is one of the best currys ive ever had!

My wife and I flew back from holiday into Manchester airport about 15 years ago and was desperate for a curry before heading home to Glasgow. We stopped at the first restaurant on the way.

It was a brown oily blob of 'sauce' on rice. It tasted like a cornstarch and oxo mix with no discernible spice taste at all.

In fact, I've had a better feed licking the insides of my spice cupboard.

Perhaps I can beat it! Had a Chicken Jalfrezi from our local last year which are usually very good. This time I ended up with Campylobacter (what!!!)? it's the trots x ten. Couldn't get off the bog for a fortnight and lost 8 pounds but not all at one sitting! Needless to say the menu went in the bin. Even got a phone call from the Department of Health to find out where the shop was. They probably wanted to avoid it! Was the least convincing curry I have eaten!

Regarding the dish of peas, I've had the sag paneer equivalent: A tasteless sag bhaji with one of those individually wrapped portions of red Leicester on top. At least they removed the cellophane!
