What can I use as a substitute for gram flour?
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:05 PM »
hello im going to have a go at a bhaji reciepe tonight, however i tried everywhere and cannot get any gram flour.

Is there a decent substitute for this and would the quantities as specified in the reciepe have to be altered.

just added this to an order i got online, but that dont help for tonight.

Hi jimmy2x

You can use almost any flour as a substitute but, inevitably, it isn't going to taste the same.

For now just use what you have (plain flour etc.), it'll work, but will just lack the nutiness of gram flour.

OR...if you have some lentils and a grinder, do a half and half lentil flour mix, it should work.

thanks santa

im lacking a spice grinder, or blender not long been doing this cooking thing.

will go with your plain flour suggestion, maybe i can alter my spices a bit in the bhjai to create a nutty type flavour.
