« on: October 10, 2009, 12:27 PM »
Hi Chaps, I'm needing your knowledge here about gas/boiling rings

is it possible to get a gas ring with a high kW rating of about 20/30kW?? (i cant find one)

or

is it possible to de-regulate a burner like this [8.8kW]

to get a higher kW? if so how much is it possible to get out of it?

Thanks UB

Hi UB,

This website lists burners up to 20 Kw:-

Click on domestic then the 3 flame rings:

http://www.optimgas.com/index_an.htm

Not sure why you would want this much heat though!

Sorry UB I don't know - I'm sure they would post you one from Spain to UK.

That 3 flame jobbie says 28 Kw using natural gas - plenty hot enough for anything I guess. It does say for outside use, however.

Cheers,

PaulP

Go on UB, get a HUGE one and stick it in your tandoor!  That's what I'd do!  :P

Oeeeeer!  That doesn't sound quite right, does it!  :-\

Exactly what I thought, ;D
I tried it with my tandoor, the propane gave off too much water vapour and the clay stayed quite damp when I tried to cover the opening to build the temperature up, leaving  a slight opening to allow it to breathe,  >:(this just sounds wrong...

I'm defo interested CA but i would imagine shipping to UK would be too excessive?

is there any way to convert the burner in the pic?

must be a UK outlet? or is it a UK law not to sell above a certain kw limit?

i don't think u'll get anyone to advise on moding an existing burner. the amount of air that can be drawn through the inlet into the jet is the limiting factor.

my stove was rated at 2.5kw and i enlarged the jet by buying a very small drill bit. it took my burner upto ~9kw mark. part of my need was to get the flames to wrap so i could accept a slightly cooler flame ie more yellow. if u want purely heat ie blue flame then i feel u will struggle and need to buy the required spec.

ps for making curry u don't need more heat than ~9Kw. i don't know where the cut off is but 4Kw is not enough and ~9Kw is too much.
