I sorta know what you mean. There are so many spices, both ground and whole, flours, lentils... aisle and aisle of it.

Luckily, BIR cooking uses a tiny subset of these for everyday dishes. In fact the only things I really need to go to the Indian market for (that they don't have the regular supermarket) are things like kalonji seeds, quality curry powder, and quality chilli powder.

I really love the vegetables and fruit section.
Even after twenty years, of visiting these shops, they still get stuff I don't know.
I came across custard apples the other day
Anyone tried them?
They are the oddest fruit I ever tried
Giant seeds, slimy and sweet
But something new..........that's what I love
Just by the till, they sell kiddy sweet packets
Five bags for a pound
Even these are not standard shop fayre
The sweets are usually extra very bright colours
Nobody seems to care about e numbers in this lot!!!
Weird flavours too
Cinnamon and chilli

Soon these shops will be getting the Pakistani Mangoes
They come in two size boxes
Fives and tens and they smell amazing
They aroma fills any room you leave the box in
I can hardly wait

The frozen fish section is fascinating too
They have fish (complete with heads) about two foot long
You would need a big pot to cook that

If I don't visit one of these shops every week, I get withdrawal symptoms
I love them
So you're not on your own, Chilli Head
