Out of interest.
« on: March 30, 2009, 08:44 PM »
Hi Curry Heads,

I have been a member on crO for only a month, I have learnt more in that month than the last 10 years of trying to find out the BIR secrets. I have made things that I just wouldn't of thought about attempting, ie. BBs spicy onion salad (with Ketchup), Cory Anders superb pilau Rice and even Uncle Buck's 'kick ass chille Con Carne' (I know its not curry but kick ass it is and I fully recommend).

I love making my Curry base, Pre cooked chicken and my choice curry dish. But, it is time consuming and so I mostly do it at the weekend, So, Out Of Interest.....What is your favourite 'TV dinner' curry. I tend to stick with Tesco's CTM, nothing like my own CTM but it only takes 6 minutes as opposed to 24 hrs (with marinade). Is there a better choice?

Haven't had one in about 6 years, but I remember the Sainsbury's Rogan Josh being actually very good (for a TV dinner).

I find there is not a great deal of difference bewteen them, they all have this certain frozen curry taste.  If I go for a supermarket curry I would go for the new fresh ones which have to be ovened from Tesco, they are a cut above any frozen curry I have had, they even do a spicy CTM.  I find that when you have loaded the plate up with all the extras which I do it is not to bad for a quick fix.

BBs spicy onion salad (with Ketchup)

Cheers Onion B, I love that recipe! It's pretty much Kris Dhillon's onion salad with ketchup, but what a difference! It was the chef at my work's canteen who put me onto the ketchup. I've noticed that cheap ketchup isn't as good as using Heinz.

Cheers,

BB.

I recon that real BIR style curry, if sold in jars or tins, wouldnt sell due to the oil content!  If BIR had to state thier oil content, sales would drop massivly defo!

ASDA's fresh cooked stuff (as per parker's post) isn't bad. Meat content is typically low but sauces are OK and, as you say, handy when you can't be bothered standing over the cooker.
