kfc !!!!
« on: June 05, 2005, 12:36 AM »
Had a Kfc today & there was an onion smell that resembled the one found in the Curries i buy ( I'm almost certain its Garlic in the coating on the Chicken ) Has anyone ever put Garlic puree in at the end of cooking their Curries as you would keep the strong Onion smell/taste that way.
                                          I'm up for a right ribbing here ain't i ??   ;D ;D

No mate, you're getting confused, you were actually in Kentucky Fried Curry, it's the new Bangladeshi franchise run by Colonel Sikhander. Taking fusion food to the next level.? ?:o?
You may have seen their recent advert for a family balti with six free pakora dippers, and who can forget their slogan 'it's ladies fingers lickin good'.? (It helps to know that Balti means bucket?and ladies fingers are okra :D )
P.S. If i see any Kentucky Fried Curry chains opening, I want royalties!

Now why would you use raw garlic to give an onion smell? Pureed raw onion surely. When I first read this I thought the cholesterol from all those vindaloos had finally got as far as your brain, but thinking a bit more, I use raw garlic when I make guacamole and it's lovely. However I still think it's unlikely. Raw garlic can give some people chronic heart burn, but I'm not one of them so I might just try a teaspoon or two next curry.

Like the take on kfc. Its nice to see a lighter side to forum members, did i not say that overdosing on Curry can cause momentary insanity with lasting affects of silliness !!
It was just a thought  because the strong onion taste /smell in my local Curries is more like that of Garlic but..& heres the rub..When i have a Take-away my wife says that i don't smell too much of Garlic, when however i make my own its a totally different story " you wreak of Garlic"!

Because of personal perception & all that it is hard to convey on a forum what a taste -smell is like .
But the one emanating from my local is an Onion smell but more like Garlic than Onion..confussed ? you will be !! It also smells much like Asafoetida powder( this has a strong Onion smell if you haven't used it yet). But when you use it a home" Bloody hell were did that smell go " ?
Also seriously The smell was on the Kfc ( it could be an type of seasoning/ flavor enhancer).
I can wait for summer to end so i can persuade my local BIR to give me cooking lessons.

KFC meat is pre-boiled, coated in the batter, then deep fried for a short time.

OK then, logically it is a seasoning or something to enhance the flavor & it is very like the smell in the Curries i buy.
