Evo Base, who's in?
« on: October 18, 2008, 10:54 AM »
OK i been thinking about this one for a while not sure if it will work but i want to bring heads together to make a base that has complete membership input and hopefully in time approval.

We all know what we like and dislike [as Bruce Edwards said all the info is here] so why not make a base that is never complete always open for discussion, ingredients can be added, submitted and the method change by you.. Perhaps the Big man himself can join in!

hopefully in time we have a base that is the business!! or it may be crap where as we go back and start again..

Thoughts:

- good post count to be a active member [say 50?]
- changes made by members though moderators
- start with a basic base recipe
- aim for about 4 liters
- aim for base that you like where time and cost are not a issue
- trail and error
- post findings positive or negative
- pros and cons for the changes in ingredients and method
- maybe members that are pally with there BIR can hand the recipe for approval or edit?

what do you think? or do i need to get a life  :)

we certainly need to do something - for me we're in danger of getting strangled by it "the base".

i still like bobby's idea of having a finger print (is it a facebook in modern terms) of each site "star" detailing what they make and how they make it.

Sounds good, ingredients qty's need to be quite strict I think (maybe pics too), I'm base cooking right now, can I start with that, think it may be nearer 5 liters than 4 though, but I've been detailing down and measuring everything as I go.

Is it me or is this just another CR0 base development, which we know from previous encounters doesn't work. We know we all disagree on certain points here. Just look at the best base poll.

This will just end up with one or two members working hard towards it and eventually agreeing on it. Also, I have to say that most people would probably rather knock up a good base that one still in the making.

You know I'm all for the base trials but I really don't think a group effort will work. For example, take SnS' June 2008 base which I think is the nuts! A single trusted member who's made their own evo base then published it once it was ready.

UB, I would however be interested to follow your solo base evolution.

BB - you raise some very good points here.

1. I'm not sure why the earlier cr0 base development didn't take off but it didn't. I never tried it, probably because I would give preference to other base sauces which get great reviews here but which I haven't yet tried. I like Uncle Bucks idea, though. I'm only prepared to make a few curries per year, to avoid getting fat!

2. Your 'still in the making' comment chimes with me. I'm more interested in proven near-final recipes than I am in reading about every twist and turn during an R&D process. That becomes information overload as does a post on what's planned, before anything has even been achieved. As you say: publish when ready!

Thanks George, although I'm shocked to hear you don't make that muh curry!!! :o

Who's still up for the single members curry solutions idea? I would really find this helpful! I'm thinking a wiki with a page for every member who wants one. The link to this could then be placed on their signature.

Stu, any chance of this? Could you stick mediawiki on your server so we can get started?

Sorry this took awhile for me to reply.

As George says you raise some good points BB, I guess the idea sounds a little odd.
I agree the Saffron base is very good.

Say if you were following a base recipe and deiced to change it in some slight way for any reason the results where improved this is where you could put your eureka moments into play strait away, getting it out there so to speak.
I for one and perhaps like many members cannot resist but to tinker!!
Unlike Some sites here we have creativity which keeps the boards buzzing so I'm very pleased to here your interest  :)
