Just how much effect does beer have on the "taste"?

I haven't done it recently because I don't drink as much as I used to but, have you ever made a curry and thought yeah not too bad, and then you have some of it after you've had a skinfull and thought...Oh My God this is fabulous...so much more depth of flavour?

Usually it is a case of it just tastes better when you have been away from the stove for a while - if you make one really quickly it is great, but if you are doing a marathon cook such as base cooking and then several dishes I very rarely enjoy sitting down my curry - especially knowing I have dishes to do :(

Sometimes I like to make my dish. Cover it up and put in fridge. clean up etc then come back a few hours later - blitz it in the microwave - heat a balti up till it is sizzling then whack the curry in and can anjoy it smoking and sizzling with a beer without the worry ahead of me.

I think most things taste better after a drink or three...It's surprising just what you'll eat when you're bevvied up. I know that a bowl of frosties with ice cold milk on tastes like manna from Nirvana at 3am on a Sunday morning when I'm too drunk to manually operate a microwave. :)

My hubby swears that curries are better after a pint of Enoch's Hammer from the Sair Inn near us...by the way if you're ever in that pub, you should try their pickled chillis or if you're really brave, one of their pickled eggs (before you say it SS, I know.....I'm a dirty northern heathen :P)

You arent being served in the right glasses then... All the proper ale pubs up here sell pints in glasses where the pint line is clearly marked lower than the top of the glass allowing space for a free head :)
