Topic: What is this?

This morning, I found this hanging from the underside of my garage roof (inside).

Only thing I've seen similar in construction is a wasp's nest, but as this is slightly smaller than a golf ball, I guess it must be something else (spider perhaps).

Any ideas - before I remove it.

I had one exactly like it hanging from my front door canopy thing.... our area is infested with spiders but never found out exactly what it was - was nothing in it.

I have a feeling it's the start (or end - when I get rid)) of a wasps nest.
