Hi all, found this site the other day top site must say, so here for my first post, when I read posts about the gravy base is there a big differance between northern england and southern curry bases? I am from yorkshire and once stopped in chiswick and must say the same meal I order here came completely differant, just wondering? also had a lesson from a lady from bangladesh on saturday, we did a lovely rice pudding sweet and a pea/carrot pualo rice both of which I will post,I was not impressed with the curry just a basic aloo gobi nice but nothing special, anyway I am sorry but I have to try one of the curry gravy base recipes on here any suggestions for a easy one for a first attempt?

Hi and welcome to the site,
I don't think there is a North\South as such and probably has more to do with where the chef is from and learnt their trade.
As for a first base to try there a quite a few and a lot will produce similar results so it is a case of pick one and see how it goes. The Bruce Edwards, Petes special, ifindforu's and Darths all have favorable reviews so go for one of them.

Hi fishingblade1889
I don't believe there is a north/south divide curry-wise, I think it's all down to personal taste.
I'm a Yorkshire lass and I do love me curries, but I can order the same dish from quite a few restaurants/takeaways and never get the same dish twice
lol
I judge curries the same way as I judge art.....I'm not an expert but I know what I like
The best way is through trial and error.....if you find a base sauce mix that suits your tastes, stick with it
There are some great recipes on this site and I've tried quite a few and never had a bad result yet but I do have my favourites....Like Curry King said, pick one and give it a go ;D I'm sure you won't be disappointed

Hi fishingblade 1889,
welcome aboard. There is lots to choose from here, and I can recommend Darth`s/Stews and Onions base sauce. As Dominatrixxx says, without any bad results. As for a North/South divide I have had a different tasting curry from BIR`s from the opposite sides of the same street.
Happy cooking.... ;D ;D
