Hello from Las Vegas.
« on: May 28, 2007, 06:53 PM »
I miss living in London.
I moved to the US on Christmas Day 1995.  the first thing I did was to scour the Internet for any local Balti.  The nearest I could find was in Toronto (I was in Boston).  Seeven years later I was in Toronto, and no  one had ever heard of the place.
Now I live in Las Vegas, where the Indian restaurants are well below average, so I have to find out the recipes to cook them for my self...which brings me here.

Hi pforkes,  ;) welcome to the best curry site on the web. There is lots of stuff here to help you. This site will be the next best thing to coming home and walking into a Indian Resturant and sitting down to your favorite curry. Happy cooking my friend anything you need to know just ask... ;D

Hi pforkes, I know what you mean. For a long time currys in the USA were non-existent. I first started seeing them in the late 90's but they were very mild and not like your average BIR at all.

Since about 5 years or so ago you can now get a vaguely decent curry in Silicon Valley (between San Francisco and San Jose). They still tend to be not very hot and have not the flavour and depth of BIR curries, but I guess this is down to demand - i.e. there isn't much. So making your own is the way to go :)
