Grinder for making a chilli paste

Hello
I want to home-make a Laal Mas dish which uses Mathania chilli paste. I would like to have a go at making the paste or something close to it.
Never made my own spices or ground anything before, so I am on the lookout for a grinder. Lots of cheap stuff on Amazon which doesn't look like it would do anything like what I'm after.
Is paste something you generally just buy pre-done?
Otherwise can anyone recommend a decent grinder to make chilli paste from?
