Dry Yellow Mustard
« on: March 02, 2015, 07:15 PM »
What would adding dry yellow mustard powder give to a homemade spice mix? I have been looking at various commercial curry powder's and plan to make my own. Some have mustard listed amongst the ingredients whilst others seem to omit it.

I have just bought from my local Asian supermarket some spices in powdered form namely Coriander, Fenugreek, Cumin, Turmeric and a packet of yellow dry Mustard.

Now I have been reading the various dry mixes on this site and You-Tube but cant see any that show adding dry mustard.

Any ideas?

Dry mustard powder will add a certain "warmth" to a dish i use it in my Balti Chicken Tikka Masala recipe the other half loves it.

You could try coconut milk and mustard powder to cook fish or prawns in or using it in Chicken Tikka.

I use 2 tsp mustard powder in my Balti spice mix out of 29 tsp in the spice mix in total.
I only use this spice mix for Batli only and not for anything else along with the base for Balti.

Most curry powders won't have dry yellow mustard power in them it'll be ground mustard seeds.
