Taj Mahal - Romford
« on: February 22, 2015, 02:40 PM »
Unfortunatley, me and my wife dined in the Taj Mahal near Romford station. The resturaunt decore first drew us in, the smell seemed promising... however, the waiter took an half an hour to come to our table (to take orders for drinks) and returned with the wrong drinks 15 minutes later. I didn't think this was possible and thought that I was on candy camera because we were approximately 6-7 feet away from the bar area.

We waited approximately a further 20 minutes and the waiter came over to take orders for the food. I asked about the chicken tikka masala and asked about their chef's specialisties. The waiter did not know and asked me to look at the menu instead of asking him (which I thought was rude - as I expect this to be general knowledge - i'm not asking for ingredients!). Anyway, I ordered the chicken tikka masala (safe bet I thought) and my wife ordered the matar paneer (her favourite) - and requested for her - no onions, must be blended (she's rather particular about that and always has been). 1 hour later (if it wasn't for the fact that me and my wife can talk we would've gone without paying for drinks) he returned with our food. Guess what... onions in the mutar paneer. My wife asked for it to be returned and for it to come back blended so no onions were present, just the gravy and paneer. 10 minutes later (impressed by the speed in comparison to his last times) he came back with a yellow soup and said "there you go".... I leant over and inspected the dish and suddenly there was no paneer at all. I called him over and said "okay, were's the paneer" and he said "it's blended, like you asked".

My wife's face turned a neer scarlett shade and I could see that her jaw was clenched to the point of 'tooth cracking' and she didn't say a word. I said to him "okay... this is taking the biscuit. My wife gave you specific instruction to blend the onions so that it would be gravy and paneer. Instead, you have blended the entire dish... and I ask, you really expect me to pay for this?" and he took her dish and went out back and you could hear arguing (a real turn off).

Well... long story short... we got 2 free cokes and an increased heart rate from jogging.

Worst... indian... resturaunt... ever.

Nightmare! The half-hour wait at the outset would have been 25 minutes too long for me!

If i'd have known you were in the area, i would have recommended the Maharajah Tandoori, just down the road.  Good food, and has been for many many years  ::)
