Forgot to add oil to my base....help!
« on: January 29, 2015, 05:32 PM »
Trying out chewytikka's 3hr base last night. Let it sit overnight and then blended it this afternoon only to realise I didn't put any oil in. So... I've put in 20 ml of veg oil, blended it again with a stick blender and am busy giving it another simmer.

What are the chances that the base will yield a good curry?
Cheers in advance

It should be fine, did you put in 20ml or 200ml, I think Chewy's base has 200ml in it. It may have been ok without the oil some people make oil free bases.

My feeling is tat as long as you give it a good rolling simmer for 15/20 minutes to cook out the spices it should probably be O.K, if not perfect.

Cheers London and Fried. That 20ml was a typo, I used the 200ml. I knocked up a quick madras with some chicken tikka and the other half was well impressed. I let the base cook until the oil started to pool on the surface, took it as a sign from the curry gods all would be well.
Thanks for the help!
